Along with, well, everything else, I've become quite the believer in astrology. I never used to believe much in astrology and horoscopes until I learned about moon signs. Growing up, I knew myself to be a virgo, but I never felt like a virgo (everything you read about them is somewhat awful in my opinion), so I completely disregarded astrology. A couple of years ago someone told me about moon signs, and then everything started to make sense.
Your sun sign is the part of the zodiac that the sun was in on the day you were born. The sun sign is what people generally refer to as their astrological sign. So if I am a virgo, it means the sun was in virgo when I was born. However, there are many many factors that play into a person's personality and emotional makeup, astrology being just one of those. And out of astrology, the sun sign plays only part of the role. Another major factor is a person's moon sign. Your moon sign is the part of the zodiac that the moon was in on the day you were born, and it changes more frequently (every 3 days or so; sun sign is every 30 days or so). Along with moon sign there is rising sign, venus sign, mars sign, eros sign, and probably a plethora of others depending on where planets and even comets were in relation the the Earth on your birthday. However, moon plays a big factor in a person's underlying emotionality, something that is often more significant than personality and intellect, even though it may not be evident due to its being primarily in the subconscious. Moon signs tend to be more of an influence on women then on men (I'm not yet sure as to why, maybe because the moon is feminine).
The following site will help you calculate your moon sign:
Lunarium
It's free to calculate and it gives a clean, well organized description of your moon sign and what it implies for you. It helps to know the exact time you were born for accuracy's sake. However, I find that once you read the description of your moon sign, you will feel instantly whether it is correct or not. If it doesn't feel right, check the signs next to it in astrological order and see if one feels better. Or you may feel like a combination of the two, meaning you are probably right on the cusp of a moon sign. I find moon signs to be hauntingly accuate, and they give so much more insight and understanding into people than sun signs alone. Quite often, if I want to know more about a person and learn a more intimate side of them, I will try to find out their birthday so I can calculate their moon sign. Once I learn their moon sign, I can understand where they are coming from and better communicate with them.
Another important factor in astrology are combinations of signs - that is, how all the planets and corresponding positions on the zodiac - work together to affect your disposition as a whole. Another fantastic site that I use all the time and that gives a description of your sun-moon combination is the following:
Astrology-Numerology
You must know both your sun and moon sign in order to read the description of your sun-moon combination, so use the site I listed first to find out your moon sign before venturing here. I visit this site all the time. Again, like moon signs, it gives me even more perspective into people's personalities and underlying emotions. If I know someone's sun and moon sign, I will look up their combination and after reading it, I feel as though I know them a lot better, and I understand them a lot better. I even play a game where, if I know a friend's sun sign/birthday, I will read all 12 descriptions for the sun/moon combinations in their particular sun sign and I will try to guess which is their moon sign based on the descriptions given. Then I will go and calculate their real moon sign, and I am correct most of the time. I even do it with celebrities. It amazes me how accurate it is. One time I was on imdb or something, reading about Evan Rachel Wood. Then I was like "Hey - this girl is a lot like me, I bet we share the same sun and moon signs." So I looked up her birthday on wikipedia and calculated her sun/moon signs and sure enough, we both have sun in virgo and moon in pisces. It's astounding, and something you could spend hours playing with. It's a great way to gain insight on your date/potential partner as well; or anyone you will be sharing time and space with, for that matter.
And one more thing, when it comes to reading horoscopes, I now look at both the virgo and pisces horoscope, as I find both are equally relevant.
